What is Root Canal Treatment?
The root canal in a tooth houses nerves and blood vessels that reach down to the tip of the tooth’s root. When a tooth is injured, bacteria can ingress and cause an infection in the root canal system. For some patients, the tooth may discolour which could mean the nerve in the tooth is dying.
Root canal treatment addresses the infection and can often preserve a tooth that might otherwise need to be extracted. Removing a tooth creates a gap that alters the appearance of our smile. Over time, missing teeth can contribute to additional bone loss, which may negatively impact our facial structure and lead to other dental issues.

Radiographs are taken to assess the extent of damage and prepare for treatment.
Elimination of infection
Your dentist will anaesthetise you and clean the root canal system with specialised equipment. This can take more than 1 visit.
Fill and Seal
After the cleaning process, we will fill the root canal system and place a filling. In some cases we will place a crown.
